Eric was a young man defined by honesty, unwavering integrity, and a deep sense of fairness. Warm, present, and naturally good-natured, he combined moral strength and quiet insight with a caring, hands-on spirit. From an early age he showed curiosity and creativity—building a small bridge over a stream, carving in his spare time, and pursuing photography, art, history, and psychology with equal enthusiasm. As the second oldest sibling of five, he also did his full share of rough housing and leveraging to be top on the ladder.

In high school Eric excelled athletically, distinguishing himself in football and track and earning an award for endurance and skill. Teachers and mentors recognized his mathematical ability, and he demonstrated leadership, tenacity, and determination in everything he tried. An adventurous soul, he backpacked the Adirondacks, drove solo from California to New York before GPS made long trips easy. He once saved a woman from drowning using lifesaving skills he learned in a college lifeguard course—an action that also sharpened his awareness of injustice after witnessing discrimination in the South.

Eric attended Genesee Community College and dreamed of becoming a sports coach. He loved working with his hands and later applied his talents in Maryland working for his uncle, where his aptitude for practical problem‑solving and numbers became even more evident. A lifelong learner, he asked that his college books never be given away, saying, “I like to learn something new every day.” His spiritual foundation—nurtured as a choir boy at St. James Church—grounded his life in love and service.

His life was cut short by a car accident at 23, while returning home from a work trip.

This scholarship established in Eric’s name will support a student of any academic field who exemplifies his ethical integrity, compassionate leadership, and commitment to learning—qualities that honored his life and continue his legacy.
